Our Credentials

Knowing what your manufacturing business is worth is the first step in any exit, succession, or financing decision, and the right answer depends on far more than an EBITDA multiple. If you’re planning to sell a manufacturing business, obtaining an accurate valuation is one of the first steps toward attracting qualified buyers and maximizing your company’s market value.

Our Certified Valuation Analysts (CVAs) and Certified Business Intermediaries (CBIs) build bespoke valuation reports using the cost, market, and income approaches, calibrated to your sub-sector, whether that’s aerospace, precision machining, plastics, building products, food and beverage, or industrial components.

Each report takes 20 to 30 hours to complete. You’ll learn the Fair Market Value of your business, the Net-to-You at closing, the add-backs that improve your EBITDA, and the strategies that grow value before you sell.

Valuation Factors

What Drives the Value of a Manufacturing Business

There is no one size fits all multiple for Manufacturing Businesses

Key Considerations When Valuing a Manufacturing Company:

  • Are you in a stable, growth, or declining industry?
  • Do you have a niche product? Intellectual Property? Trade secrets?
  • Do you offer any services in addition to the product?
  • Is there a management team in place outside of the owner?
  • Does the business (or owner) lease or rent the facility?
  • Do you manufacture everything in-house, or act as a distributor for any products purchased by another vendor outside of the US?
  • How much do you invest in research and development (R&D), capital expenditures, launching new products, and/or growing sales into new categories or geographic regions?
  • What is the condition of your capital equipment? Is there large value in your company assets? How much inventory do you carry?
  • How is your business impacted by interest rates and exchange rates?

What Our Clients Say

In their own words — business owners, buyers, and referral partners who've worked with Exit Equity.

We were so pleased with not only the support and offers that were presented by your group, but the support and backing we had all through the purchase program and sale program. Not only did we feel the importance that your group put behind every step, but we enjoyed your company, sense of humor and help in celebrating when the sale was complete. Thank you again for all of your help and after-market support.

FAQ

Clarity Before Your Next Move

We've guided hundreds of business owners through the sale process. Here are the questions we hear most often at the start of a conversation.

[01]

It depends on your goals and the buyer pool. Selling the real estate with the business can simplify financing for some buyers, while keeping the property and signing a long-term lease with the new owner can create steady income for you. We model both scenarios so you can compare the Net-to-You.

[02]

Buyers look closely at the condition of capital equipment and deferred maintenance. A valuation shows whether a repair or replacement is likely to be recovered in the sale price, or whether it is better reflected as a negotiated adjustment with the buyer.

[03]

Not usually. Most transactions are structured cash-free and debt-free, so existing loans are paid off at closing and rarely transfer to a buyer. What matters is the earnings and assets the loan helped create, not the loan terms themselves.

[04]

Free tools rely on generic multiples and limited data. Our valuations are prepared by credentialed analysts who review your financials, normalize earnings, study comparable transactions and deliver a defensible report you can act on.

[05]

Family involvement can affect owner compensation, add-backs and how dependent the business is on specific people. We normalize these factors and show how building a management team outside of the family can support a higher valuation.

[06]

Inventory above a normal working capital level is typically reviewed separately from the business value. We help you define a normalized inventory target so excess stock is accounted for correctly in the deal and not left on the table.

[07]

The cost depends on the type of valuation you need and the complexity of your business. During a free discovery call we will recommend the right option and give you a clear, fixed quote before any work begins.

[08]

We apply market, income and asset-based approaches and weight them according to your industry, size and the purpose of the valuation.

[09]

A written report with the concluded value, the methodology used, normalized financials, comparable transactions and the key value drivers that help or hurt your business value.

[10]

Typically three to five years of financial statements and tax returns, a current interim statement, details on owner compensation and add-backs, and an overview of customers, staff and operations.

[11]

We offer a Broker’s Opinion of Value for planning and pricing decisions, and a Certified Business Valuation prepared by our NACVA credentialed analysts for tax, legal and compliance purposes.
